Russia has begun recruiting female students for the war
In the Ulyanovsk region, cases of female students from a local technical college being recruited to participate in the war have been reported for the first time. According to human rights activists, they may be assigned tasks related to monitoring drones and other administrative military duties.
A fourth-year student at the technical college in the industrial town of Kuzovatovo, where the recruited students are studying, told the human rights project “Go Through the Forest” about this.
“Starting Thursday, we were lured in via text messages and VK with the message that the director wanted to talk to us. In the end, he first offered the guys contracts, as he usually does. But then he started offering all the girls a new contract for the Air Defense Forces. Girls from our technical school have already signed contracts,” the young man claims, adding that “now they’ve started recruiting girls too.”
According to the interviewee, recruiters who visited the school almost every week “drill into the heads” of the female students that contract service poses no threat. “It’s safe; they’ll just sit in an office and monitor drones. And a million rubles on top of that,” he says.
According to the student, at least five girls have already been recruited this way from the Kuzovatovsky Technical College, which trains specialists in economics and accounting, food service technology, agricultural mechanization, and other fields. “This is the first time we’ve been contacted regarding not only the recruitment of female students but also the contracts they’ve signed,” emphasized “Idit Lisom.”
