Ukrainian interceptor drones shot down a record number of Russian UAVs in February
Throughout February 2026, the Ukrainian Armed Forces demonstrated unprecedented effectiveness in countering Russian air attack capabilities.
This was officially reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on its Telegram channel.
Using interceptor drones, Ukrainian defenders managed to destroy over 10,000 aircraft-type drones.
The ministry emphasized that these figures represent an absolute record for units involved in “small-scale” air defense operations.
“Ukrainian ‘small-scale’ air defense has set a record,” reads the defense ministry’s statement accompanying the published statistics on successful interceptions.

Among the targets destroyed over the past month, a significant portion consists of strike drones, which the enemy systematically uses to attack rear cities and infrastructure facilities. Specifically, these include Iranian-designed kamikaze drones and their Russian counterparts.
“In February, the Defense Forces shot down over 10,000 enemy aircraft-type drones, including ‘Shahed’ and ‘Gerbera,’ using interceptor drones,” representatives of the Ministry of Defense clarified.
The use of interceptor drones is becoming an increasingly significant factor in modern warfare. This technology allows for the conservation of expensive missiles from large air defense systems while effectively neutralizing cheap but dangerous aerial targets.
As a reminder, Ukraine plans to exchange interceptor drones for air defense missiles from Middle Eastern countries.
Ukraine is also developing all-weather interceptor drones equipped with artificial intelligence.
