Ukrainians Want Unity Between the Army and the State

Ukrainians Want Unity Between the Army and the State

Ukrainians want to see the army as part of a unified state system, rather than as a separate force. This is shown by a new sociological study. Citizens also express a negative attitude toward the politicization of the military and support a clear chain of command. These findings were presented by Active Group during the press conference “Military and Politics: Balancing Media Presence, Influence, and State Unity.”

Ukrainian society is clearly demanding unity in the country during wartime. People expect the army and state leadership to function as a single system, without conflicts or disconnects. The main conclusion of the researchers is simple: Ukrainians do not want to see the army as separate from the state. On the contrary, they expect clear coordination, with all decisions aligned and command acting as a unified mechanism.

The model envisioned includes a clear chain of command, where decisions are made centrally and implemented without contradictions between different levels.

This approach is supported by multiple indicators. For example, there is high public trust in units that work closely with state structures. At the same time, people are critical of any attempts to involve the military in politics. Researchers emphasize that a new standard of perceiving the army is emerging: it is not only the results on the battlefield that matter, but also how well the military operates as part of an integrated state system.

Among the units that Ukrainians consider most effective are the Special Operations Forces, the SBU special unit “Alpha,” the Azov Regiment, and certain units of the National Guard, including “Khartiya.” “Essentially, this reflects the formation of a new societal standard for the army — where what matters is not only combat results but also the ability to act as part of a coherent state mechanism,” the study authors note.

In summary, the demand for unity is becoming a key priority. Ukrainians want to see the army and the state not as separate centers of power, but as one team working toward a common goal.

Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that the strategic goal of the invaders is currently to capture additional territory to create a so-called “buffer zone” within Dnipropetrovsk region.
