Ukrzaliznytsia Updates Passenger Safety Rules Amid Heightened Attacks

Since the beginning of spring 2026, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia has been operating under intensified attacks on rail infrastructure and rolling stock. The company emphasizes the importance of following new travel rules that account for security considerations.

This was reported by CEO Oleksandr Pertzovskyi on Facebook.

“The fifth year of the war is different from the previous ones. Every day of the war is also different. We carefully analyze every attack and every forced stop to update operational protocols, strengthen safety measures, and minimize risks. The enemy targets rail infrastructure and rolling stock. Since the beginning of March 2026, we have been countering a new wave of intensified attacks,” Pertzovskyi stated.

According to him, the enemy is trying to disrupt transport operations, and the only completely safe option for any operator would be to halt movement entirely, as the aviation sector did in February 2022.

However, the railway continues to operate according to schedule, including connections to frontline communities. “A large team works to ensure Ukrzaliznytsia’s operations: monitoring groups, dispatchers, and security specialists who detect threats 24/7 and respond immediately. If risks are identified, trains may be temporarily stopped, and evacuation procedures announced,” explained the CEO.

“Most often this happens at stations equipped with shelters, but if necessary, stops may occur directly on the tracks. These are not routine stops during a regional alert; they happen when risks are significant and require rapid response,” added Pertzovskyi.

Currently, over 4,000 train staff members have undergone special evacuation training. Carriages are being equipped with necessary gear, safety guidelines are prepared, and personnel regularly participate in additional drills.

Passengers are advised to plan trips in advance, especially connections and international journeys, allowing at least 2–3 hours between trains. It is recommended to keep documents and phones accessible and, during evacuation, to exit without bulky luggage, prioritizing safety.

In cases of significant delays, the company provides food for passengers, though travelers with children are advised to bring snacks. All up-to-date information on route conditions, expected movements, and possible delays is promptly shared via push notifications in the Ukrzaliznytsia app.

It should be recalled that several trains in Ukraine have been delayed for “technical reasons,” with some delayed by 10–12 hours.
