In Crimea, the Black Sea Fleet headquarters building is being demolished after a Storm Shadow strike
In temporarily occupied Crimea, Russian forces are dismantling the headquarters building of the Black Sea Fleet, which was destroyed in 2023 as a result of a strike with Storm Shadow missiles.
This was reported by the Crimean Wind media outlet.
Two missiles struck the facility on 22 September 2023, after which the military ceased using the building.
It is worth noting that the updated headquarters stands on the same site where, in 1900, a palace for the commander of the Black Sea Fleet was built according to the design of architect V. A. Feldman.
After the 1917 revolution, a branch of the fleet’s house of culture operated there, and the events of the Second World War completely destroyed the structure. A new headquarters building, characterised by strict and concise architectural forms, was completed in 1958. Since its construction, the facility had only recently undergone its first restoration.
During both the Soviet and Ukrainian periods, the building underwent only major repairs, which helped preserve the external appearance of the architectural landmark.
Until 2014, Russia leased the building under bilateral agreements between Ukraine and Russia. Specialists refrained from carrying out significant alterations in order not to disrupt the historic ensemble of the city centre.
It was previously reported that the Kremlin plans to seize Donetsk region by spring.
Russia is also said to be using Al-Qaeda-style tactics in Ukraine.
