Explosion occurred in an apartment building in Odesa — resident injured
In Odesa on the evening of January 21, an explosion occurred in an apartment of a multi-story building — a resident of the apartment was injured.
This was reported by the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Odesa region.
The incident was recorded on Mykhailo Hrushevskyi Street, where a blast occurred in one of the apartments and immediately set fire to household items.
Emergency services report that it was an explosion of a gas-air mixture in a 13th-floor apartment of a 14-story building. The causes and circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
According to preliminary data, the injured person is a man born in 1963. He was transported to the hospital in serious condition — doctors diagnosed burns on about 80% of his body.
The State Emergency Service notes that the most likely cause is a violation of fire safety rules when using gas equipment.
After the explosion, rescuers worked in the apartment where the fire occurred to prevent the spread of flames to neighboring units.
The rescue service emphasizes that such cases often happen due to neglect of basic safety rules — faulty hoses, unauthorized interference with equipment, or use of devices with leaks.
“We once again call on citizens to strictly follow safety rules when using gas equipment. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!” — the State Emergency Service stressed.
Experts advise regularly checking the technical condition of gas appliances and not ignoring the smell of gas, even if it seems weak.
