In the occupied town of Oleshky, people are beginning to die of starvation
In the occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region, there have been reported cases of people dying of starvation.
A journalist noted that he spoke with residents of Oleshky who were among the last to leave the blockaded city this year. Their acquaintances in the city, with whom they remain in contact, said that “things are getting worse and worse in Oleshky.”
“There have already been cases of people dying of starvation. The ‘market,’ where it’s almost impossible to buy anything—only to barter—is practically gone too. People are picking purslane from their gardens, boiling it, and eating it. We stay indoors almost all the time. We’re even afraid to go outside. The connection is very poor, but sometimes it comes through,” say the city’s residents.
At the same time, Baturin’s sources did not confirm media reports that people in Oleshky are allegedly eating dogs out of starvation: “We haven’t heard anything about dogs.”
“They also did not confirm the accounts of other locals from Oleshky who said that people in this town are already forced to catch and eat rats,” the journalist added.
At the same time, he noted that residents of Oleshky “may well be unaware of what is happening in other parts of the city—due to the lack of reliable communication, destroyed infrastructure, mined roads, and the constant danger from the air.”
Journalist Oleg Baturin wrote about this on Facebook.
