In occupied Crimea, a woman was fined for expressing sympathy for a deceased Ukrainian soldier
In occupied Crimea, a local woman was fined 30,000 rubles for a sympathetic comment regarding the death of a Ukrainian servicemember.
The ruling was issued by the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol, established by the Russian occupation authorities. The woman was found guilty of so-called “discrediting” the Russian army.
According to the case file, the woman works as a nurse at a dental clinic. She posted the following comment on Telegram: “May he rest in peace… It hurts when people like this die…”
The occupation court specifically focused on the phrase “people like this,” noting that it referred to the deceased Ukrainian soldier. The Russian court interpreted the wish for “eternal memory” as a “positive moral assessment” of the soldier.
On this basis, the court ruled that the woman had publicly supported the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and demonstrated a “negative attitude” toward the use of the Russian army.
As noted in the ruling, the woman pleaded guilty. In her statements to the Russian police, she reported that she had posted the comment with the intention of supporting the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Subsequently, according to the occupation court, she stated that she had “reconsidered her views” and now supports Russia’s policies.

Earlier, the Russian occupation authorities sentenced a 24-year-old resident of the Donetsk region to 14 years in a strict-regime penal colony for allegedly passing information to Ukrainian intelligence about the location of Russian troops in the Donetsk region.
Previously, two residents of the Kramatorsk district were found guilty of high treason and sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
