Russia has restricted airport operations due to drone attacks on Belgorod and the Moscow region
On the night of July 6–7, Ukraine launched a massive drone attack on Russian territory. The Belgorod Oblast and the Moscow region were targeted; Russian authorities reported that air defense systems were operating continuously and that several airports were temporarily restricted.
According to preliminary reports, a fire broke out in Belgorod at the Belgorod Linear Administration of Main Gas Pipelines—a subsidiary of Gazprom Transgaz Moscow, which is part of PJSC Gazprom.
The company is responsible for the operation of main gas pipelines and the transportation of natural gas throughout the Belgorod region.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that Russian air defense forces repelled an attack by drones, which were allegedly heading toward the Russian capital, over the course of several hours.
“The Russian Ministry of Defense’s air defense forces shot down nine drones flying toward Moscow,” Sobyanin said.
According to him, emergency services are working at the crash sites.
Due to the attack, restrictions were imposed on operations at Moscow’s airports. Specifically, Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, and Domodedovo temporarily accepted and dispatched flights only after coordinating with the relevant authorities. In addition, the airports in Zhukovsky, Kaluga, and Krasnodar suspended operations for a time.
Meanwhile, Russian Telegram channels report that more than 300 Ukrainian drones were allegedly in Russian airspace, most of which were heading toward Moscow. There is currently no official confirmation of this information.
This is being reported by Russian Telegram channels.
As a reminder, Ukrainian analysts claim to have identified a vulnerability in Russia’s combat aviation defense system.
