Video: Russian occupier raped a woman from the Donetsk region every night
The first trial in Ukraine has begun against a Russian soldier held as a prisoner of war, who is accused of sexually assaulting a civilian woman during the war.
According to the investigation, in 2025, 51-year-old Russian serviceman Sergey Karpilovich systematically raped a resident of the village of Zolotyi Kolodyaz in the Donetsk region for nearly two months, threatening her with an automatic rifle and murder. According to law enforcement, the abuse continued until the village was liberated by Ukrainian troops.
The defendant denies his guilt and claims that the relationship between him and the victim was consensual.
“I gave her red roses for her birthday,” the Russian soldier stated during the investigation.
After being evacuated, the woman contacted law enforcement, stating that she wanted to see him punished for a war crime. The National Police emphasized that this is the first case of war-related sexual violence in which the suspect will appear in person before a Ukrainian court rather than being tried in absentia.
Under the charges brought against him, the defendant faces 8 to 12 years in prison.
