Video: drones attack thermal power plant in Novocherkassk, Russia

On the morning of January 12, a thermal power plant in Novocherkassk, Rostov region, Russia, came under attack by drones, according to the Telegram channel ASTRA.

Local residents reported that emergency and security services quickly arrived to extinguish a fire at the facility.

ASTRA notes that the fire may have started at the open switchgear of the Novocherkassk TPP. This unit transmits electricity from the plant to the wider energy system, and damage to it could significantly affect the plant’s operations and electricity supply stability.

Novocherkassk TPP is one of the largest thermal power plants in southern Russia. It consists of several energy blocks and primarily runs on coal, with natural gas used as backup or supplementary fuel.

Ukraine has increasingly conducted successful airstrikes on targets inside Russia. With the gradual degradation of Russia’s air defenses, the scale of damage is expected to grow.

Previously, on New Year’s Eve, drones struck an oil depot and refinery in Russia, causing fires. On the morning of December 31, drones hit the FDKU plant “Temp” of the Russian Reserve in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region.
