Russian forces shell central Sumy, injuring civilians and damaging infrastructure
On the afternoon of 17 February, Russian forces once again attacked Sumy, targeting the central part of the city, according to the regional police.
So far, it is known that six civilians were injured in the shelling: two women aged 20 and 61, and four men aged 42, 45, 60, and 76. They are currently being examined by medical personnel, with their condition preliminarily reported as not severe.
The attack damaged civilian infrastructure, including administrative buildings, windows and façades of nearby houses, shops, and cafés, as well as dozens of vehicles. The full extent of the destruction is still being assessed.

Earlier, in Odesa, residential buildings and civilian facilities were damaged during a night-time shelling. Broken windows, damaged façades, and interior destruction required clearing and documentation.
It should be recalled that on 7 February, in the Myropilska community of Sumy Oblast, two civilians were killed as a result of Russian shelling. That night, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, firing more than 400 drones and around 40 missiles. The primary targets of the attack were energy facilities, including main substations and thermal power plants.
