North Korean troops shell Ukraine with artillery and drones

North Korean soldiers are directly participating in attacks on Ukraine, using towed artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and drones. They are also involved in aerial reconnaissance and fire correction.

This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence on Telegram.

According to the intelligence service, as of January 2026, North Korean forces are stationed in Russia’s Kursk region, from where they regularly carry out attacks on Ukrainian border communities.

Specifically, the North Korean troops fire on civilian areas with artillery and multiple rocket launchers, conduct aerial and artillery reconnaissance, and adjust strikes of rocket systems.

The intelligence service notes that mastering drone technology and gaining combat experience is one of the key goals of the North Korean army’s participation in the war against Ukraine.

Since the beginning of their involvement, around 3,000 North Korean soldiers have returned home. Most of them become military instructors, passing on the skills they acquired in modern warfare to the entire North Korean army.

Russian politician Dmitry Medvedev reportedly envied North Korea’s economic model.

Over the past six years, Russia has provided elite North Korean units with more than 100 thoroughbred horses, used in Kim Jong Un’s cavalry regiment and during military parades in Pyongyang.

It is worth noting that North Korea provides over 40% of military supplies to Russia.
