The shutdown of relay stations in Belarus has changed the nature of Russian attacks

UA NEWS 26 June 2026 20:16
The shutdown of relay stations in Belarus has changed the nature of Russian attacks

Russian occupation forces will no longer be able to control “Shahed” drones in real time during attacks on Kyiv and western regions of Ukraine.

This is due to the shutdown of Belarusian relay stations, which will significantly alter the nature of enemy airstrikes.

Now the enemy is forced to launch drones exclusively based on pre-programmed GPS coordinates.

The key loss for the Russian Federation resulting from the shutdown of this equipment is precisely the drones’ reconnaissance capability.

Previously, thanks to extensive networks of relay stations, the invaders not only carried out strikes but also gathered important intelligence at the same time.

In particular, they searched for critical infrastructure targets and pinpointed the exact locations of Ukrainian air defense systems.

From now on, the occupiers are unable to conduct such real-time monitoring. Online attacks on moving targets—which most often included train locomotives and mobile air defense systems—will also cease entirely.

To carry out such complex operations, the enemy requires a stable mesh network and a reliable radio command channel, both of which have completely disappeared without the Belarusian repeaters.

Separately, Russia will completely lose the technical capability to search for safe corridors between Ukrainian interceptor aircraft.

Ukraine’s air defense is actively destroying enemy air targets, so the occupiers have been trying to constantly maneuver.

To do this, they used specialized equipment mounted directly on the fuselages of their drones.

Serhiy “Flesha” Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Minister of Defense, reported this in an interview with the publication Suspilne.
