Volodymyr Zelensky urges China to help end the War in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the strategic importance of involving China in ending Russian aggression. During a meeting with media representatives, he noted that Beijing has real leverage over Moscow that could influence the course of events.

According to Zelensky, China’s role should not involve participation in combat but rather diplomatic and economic pressure to establish peace. In particular, Beijing could limit the aggressor’s military capabilities through control over certain categories of goods.

“For us, it is important to involve them — not in the war, but in stopping the war that Putin brought to Ukraine. I believe this is within their power. In any case, regarding the supply of certain types of weapons, dual-use items, etc., the Chinese leader can influence all this. Their participation would certainly be beneficial for us,” Zelensky explained.

Despite China’s significant potential, the Ukrainian side has not observed active engagement from Beijing in resolving the conflict. The president added that an active stance from the Chinese leader could be decisive in restraining Russian militarism and restoring international law.

Ukraine continues to work on engaging major geopolitical players through its European allies. In particular, Zelensky held productive talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who recently visited China. The Ukrainian president expressed gratitude to the German leader for keeping the Ukraine issue a priority on the international agenda.

“So far, we do not see their engagement,” Zelensky noted, adding that the diplomatic path remains open.

For reference, Zelensky has announced preparations for negotiations with Russia despite escalating tensions in Iran and described the U.S. and Israeli operation in Iran as a “signal” to Putin.
