Engineering troops eliminate hundreds of invaders using remote mining

The engineering units of Ukraine’s Support Forces, together with engineering divisions from other branches, have reported the results of their operations for the first month of 2026. Thanks to the extensive use of remote mining technologies, they managed to eliminate nearly 700 enemy combatants and destroy over 100 pieces of enemy equipment, according to the General Staff.

Throughout January, Ukrainian engineering units demonstrated “powerful” effectiveness in establishing mine-explosive barriers.

According to the General Staff, around 660 invaders were killed by mines, 110 units of weaponry and military equipment—including tanks, armored vehicles, and transport—were destroyed, and 65 other enemy assets that supported logistics and troop movements were targeted.

Modern warfare imposes new rules: Ukrainian sappers increasingly avoid direct manual mining. Most mines were deployed using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), allowing explosives to be delivered deep behind enemy lines or along likely advance routes during assaults. The use of robotic systems significantly reduces risks to personnel.

“Previously, sappers had to enter dangerous areas directly, but today risks are minimised—unmanned systems allow tasks to be completed faster, more accurately, and much more safely,” the Support Forces noted.

This underscores the growing effectiveness of Ukrainian engineering units and the strategic importance of remote mining technologies in modern warfare.
