Zelenskyy announced adjustments to the operation regarding Russian airspace
Following Russian strikes on the airports in Kyiv and Boryspil, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced adjustments to the operation regarding Russian airspace next week.
According to the president, Ukraine poses no threat to diplomatic efforts and has no intention of obstructing negotiations.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine has documented the use of attack drones by Russia and Iran amid U.S. diplomatic efforts.
“Russian-Iranian ‘Shaheds’ in response to U.S. diplomacy. We have documented this Russian move and will accordingly adjust our operations regarding Russian airspace next week, as it has become dangerous due to the presence of drones and missiles in the sky. Of course, there are no threats to diplomacy on our part, nor will there be any,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media.
Thus, Ukraine plans to review its actions regarding Russian airspace next week, while assuring that this will not jeopardize the diplomatic process.
Zelenskyy’s statement came after he proposed on September 4 to implement an air ceasefire during the expected visits of U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoys.
These envoys are Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who were scheduled to visit Moscow on September 5 and Kyiv on September 6.
The Ukrainian side declared its readiness to refrain from airstrikes during the period necessary for the American visit and expected reciprocal steps from Russia.
Despite Kyiv’s proposal, Russia continued its attacks on Ukraine on the night of September 5, specifically using ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones.
Against this backdrop, Ukraine emphasized that a ceasefire cannot be unilateral or asymmetrical.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces noted that under these conditions, the Ukrainian military continues to carry out its defensive operations in full.
Thus, amid U.S. diplomatic efforts and upcoming negotiations, Ukraine is not abandoning the defense of its airspace and, following the latest Russian attacks, plans to adjust its future actions regarding Russian airspace.
