Vitkoff and Kushner Will Not Bring Back a Diplomatic Breakthrough from Russia

U.S. Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Russia and Ukraine this weekend to discuss a possible end to the war.

However, CNN believes these contacts are unlikely to yield a real breakthrough in the negotiations. The main obstacle remains the Kremlin’s position, which, according to the publication, has remained virtually unchanged since the last meetings.

Vladimir Putin continues to insist on maximalist demands toward Ukraine. These include the transfer of the entire Donbas region to Russia—including territories controlled by the Ukrainian military—Kyiv’s renunciation of NATO and EU membership, and a reduction in the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Ukraine rejects these demands. Meanwhile, Witkoff and Kushner’s trip to Kyiv will be their first, whereas U.S. representatives have already visited Moscow several times.

U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Moscow. The American delegation is set to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

On the morning of September 5, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced new strikes on Ukraine. This was reported after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed a ceasefire in the air for the duration of the visit by U.S. President Donald Trump’s representatives—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

A Russian attack on Wednesday destroyed a warehouse containing Philips-branded household goods and caused significant damage to the warehouse infrastructure of the company’s logistics partner in Ukraine.
