Zelenskyy has ordered an extension of mobilization and martial law

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted new bills to the Verkhovna Rada regarding the extension of mobilization and martial law.

This information was reported on the Verkhovna Rada’s website.

Two bills have been submitted—Nos. 15197 and 15198—which must be approved by corresponding decrees of the head of state.

“To approve the decree of the President of Ukraine dated April 27, 2026, No. 343/2026 ‘On the Extension of the Term of General Mobilization.’ This Law shall be immediately announced through the media and shall enter into force on May 4, 2026,” the text of the bill states.

Once the bills are adopted by the Verkhovna Rada and signed by the president, mobilization and martial law will be extended for 90 days—until August 2.

As a reminder, in Ukraine in May 2026, mobilization rules will remain in effect without changes if martial law is extended. The conscription procedure will, as before, depend on age, military status, and the presence of a deferment.

Parents with multiple children in Ukraine are entitled to a deferment from mobilization, but this is not automatically guaranteed.

Meanwhile, the head of the National Police stated that law enforcement officers’ participation in mobilization activities is not their direct duty and has negative consequences. According to him, this practice affects public perception of the police.
