Zelenskyy outlines what Ukraine’s victory means

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interview with BBC, clearly set out the country’s priorities in the war against Russian aggression.

The head of state stressed that true victory is not only about de-occupying territories, but above all about saving citizens’ lives and preserving territorial independence.

During the interview, journalists noted that US President Donald Trump and a number of international analysts have expressed doubts about Ukraine’s ability to achieve a military victory. They suggest that refusing territorial concessions to the Kremlin could lead to the complete defeat of the Ukrainian state.

“Where are you now? Today you are in Kyiv, in the capital of our homeland, Ukraine. I am very grateful for this. Are we losing? Of course not, because we are fighting for Ukraine’s independence,” Zelenskyy responded.

The President emphasised that stopping the Russian dictator is a victory on a global scale, as the Kremlin’s ambitions extend far beyond Ukraine’s borders. He is convinced that preventing the full occupation of the country is already a significant strategic achievement.

Zelenskyy also addressed the issue of returning occupied territories, stating that Ukraine will inevitably restore its territorial integrity in the future. However, he cautioned against reckless steps that could cost millions of lives due to the numerical advantage of the Russian army.

“We understand the price of such steps. You will not have enough people, you will be losing them. And what is land without people? Honestly, nothing,” the President explained, emphasising the value of every Ukrainian.

Zelenskyy distinguished between strategic gain and historical retribution, noting that the struggle is taking place on several levels simultaneously. Preserving sovereignty remains the primary task for the survival of the nation under constant pressure.

“Ukraine’s victory is the preservation of our independence, and the victory of justice for the whole world is the return of all our lands,” the President concluded.

Earlier, Zelenskyy announced he would hold a meeting following talks in Geneva. He also stated that Ukraine is ready to join NATO.
