Zelenskyy: Trump has realized that Russia does not want to end the war
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that U.S. President Donald Trump understands that the Russian Federation—an aggressor state—has no interest in ending the war. Zelenskyy made these remarks in an interview with American blogger Lori Lumer, according to “Ukrainska Pravda,” citing “European Pravda.”
“The president has realized who really doesn’t want to stop the war. In fact, quite the opposite. He realized that we want to stop Putin, and he realized that we truly want peace. Because previously, there were voices saying that Ukraine doesn’t want to stop,” Zelenskyy noted.
He emphasized that Ukraine seeks victory but is focused first and foremost on saving lives. According to the president, the opportunity to stop the war and reach a ceasefire as early as tomorrow would be a better alternative than fighting for victory for another 10 or 20 years and losing lives.

Zelenskyy also said that Trump had begun to trust him, calling this a key factor in the shift in the tone of their relationship. He considers a brief personal meeting with Trump at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican in Rome, which took place in April 2025, to be the turning point.
The meeting between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine is scheduled to take place in Washington on Tuesday, July 28.
