Zelensky for the first time allows possible withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has presented a new version of a peace plan that allows for the possible withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas to create a “demilitarised zone,” provided that Russia does the same.
According to The Washington Post, the 20-point draft represents Zelensky’s first step toward a potential territorial compromise.
Ukraine is ready to consider withdrawing forces from the east only on a reciprocal basis, while maintaining control over its territory and seeking to establish a free economic zone that would not be controlled by any military forces.
The president stressed that any such agreement would require a nationwide referendum and strict adherence to a ceasefire regime. At present, the document has not been agreed with Russia, and the implementation of the plan remains unlikely.
