Zelenskyy called on partners to provide air defense systems following Russia's large-scale attack on Ukraine

Zelenskyy called on partners to provide air defense systems following Russia's large-scale attack on Ukraine

More than 500 employees of the State Emergency Service are currently working to address the devastating consequences of a massive nighttime attack by Russian forces on Ukrainian cities and communities.

During this latest war crime, the enemy launched a record 656 attack drones and 73 missiles of various types at the country’s territory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and called on international partners to immediately strengthen the country’s air defense.

The invaders’ main strike targeted Kyiv, where debris and direct hits once again damaged dozens of residential buildings and purely civilian infrastructure facilities.

Four people were killed in the capital as a result of the terrorist shelling, and another 38 residents are currently in the city’s hospitals.

“Over 500 State Emergency Service personnel are involved in responding to the aftermath of the nighttime Russian attack on our cities and communities. The main strike was on Kyiv, where dozens of residential buildings and other purely civilian infrastructure were damaged again. Unfortunately, four people are known to have died. My condolences go out to all their families and loved ones. Currently, 38 people are in hospitals in the capital, and all are receiving the necessary care,” the Head of State said.

At the same time, a large-scale search and rescue operation is continuing in Dnipro at the site of a completely destroyed four-story apartment building.

A Russian missile virtually completely destroyed part of this residential building, claiming the lives of nine citizens, including a small child. Another 35 city residents sustained injuries of varying severity, and the fate of six people remains unknown at this time.

Rescue workers have assured that search operations at the site will continue nonstop for as long as necessary to locate all those missing.

In addition, Russian forces deliberately targeted energy facilities in the Kharkiv region and critical infrastructure directly in Kharkiv.

The Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions were also subjected to intense combined enemy strikes.

To shell peaceful regions, the occupiers used a wide range of missile weapons, including dangerous ballistic, cruise, and anti-ship missiles.

The head of state emphasized that this large-scale attack is a completely transparent statement by the Kremlin of its intention to continue the terror if Ukraine does not have reliable protection.

To end the hostilities, European countries need their own powerful anti-ballistic capabilities, as well as critical support from Washington.

“Europe needs its own anti-ballistic capabilities so that this war can finally end. And we absolutely need the United States’ help in supplying missiles for the Patriot systems. We are counting on the support of our partners and on effective responses to today’s strike,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy concluded.
