Zelensky imposes sanctions on ideologues of the “Russian World”
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree imposing restrictive measures on 29 individuals and 15 organizations from the aggressor country.
The new sanctions aim to suppress Russia’s ideological expansion, combat historical falsifications, and protect cultural heritage in temporarily occupied territories.
Zelensky emphasized that Russia has for decades used historical manipulation and outright falsehoods as a weapon against Ukraine.
“But there is no Russian weapon we haven’t learned to destroy, and we will also overcome this ideological weapon. Sanctions are one of the tools,” Zelensky stated.
According to official information from the Presidential Office, the sanctions target individuals who directly shape propaganda narratives within Russia’s education system. Among them is Oleksandr Chubaryan, co-author of Russian school textbooks that justify armed aggression against Ukraine.
Other sanctioned individuals include pseudo-historian Oleksiy Miller, known for his imperialist views, and collaborator Artem Lagoiskyi, who betrayed the state and headed the so-called “Ministry of Culture of Kherson region,” facilitating the occupiers’ implementation of control.
The activities of these individuals are classified as deliberate distortion of facts and dissemination of enemy propaganda aimed at legitimizing the occupation.
The sanctions also target 15 legal entities and organs of occupation administrations involved in looting Ukraine’s resources and archives.
For context, Donald Trump extended sanctions against Russia for another year due to its aggression in Ukraine. Additionally, Australia joined the sanctions against Russia, restricting 180 individuals and ships.
