The Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced on three fronts and thwarted the Russian Federation’s offensive, according to the ISW

Over the past few days, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have made advances in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. At the same time, Ukrainian troops have repelled a series of Russian attacks and prevented the Russian army from advancing on several sections of the front.

In the north of the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian forces have recently advanced or continued to hold their positions.

According to information from one of the Ukrainian units operating in the area, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled Russian attacks near Odradne, located east of Kharkiv. According to analysts, this may indicate that Odradne remains under Ukrainian control, despite Russian claims that the town had been captured.

Ukrainian forces also continue to strike Russian military targets in the occupied part of the Kharkiv region.

At the same time, the Russian army has not ceased its offensive operations in the Kupiansk direction, though the ISW has no confirmation of Russian advances.

In the Borova sector on September 3 and 4, Russian troops conducted limited offensive operations but were unsuccessful. In contrast, Ukrainian forces carried out successful counterattacks.

Russian military bloggers claim that the area between Ridkodub and Novoye, southeast of Borova, remains contested territory where fighting continues.

In the Donetsk region, Ukrainian forces recently advanced east of Sloviansk.

This comes amid attempts by Russian troops to establish control over tactical high ground near Sloviansk, which could create more favorable conditions for the occupiers to launch a further offensive on the city.

Geolocated footage released on September 3 points to a possible advance by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The footage shows a Russian strike on Ukrainian positions in the northwestern part of Rai-Oleksandrivka, located east of Sloviansk.

Meanwhile, on September 4, a Russian military blogger claimed that Nikonorivka, southeast of Sloviansk, had been captured. However, there is no confirmation of this claim.

In the Kostiantynivka–Druzhkivka sector, Russian troops continued their offensive operations on September 3 and 4 but were unable to advance.

Ukrainian defenders are holding positions that are hindering the Russian army’s attempts to approach Kostiantynivka and advance into the city itself.

The occupiers also continued offensive operations in the Pokrovsk direction, but achieved no confirmed successes on September 3 and 4.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukrainian forces recently advanced toward Novopavlivka.

According to geolocated footage released on September 3, the Defense Forces advanced west of Kotlyarivka, located near Novopavlivka.

In the Huliaipole sector, as well as in the western part of the Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian army continued its offensive operations on September 3 and 4.

At the same time, no confirmed instances of Russian troop advances have been recorded in these sectors of the front.

Thus, according to the ISW’s assessment, Ukrainian forces have achieved localized successes in several directions in recent days, while Russian troops continue their offensive operations but have not made any confirmed advances in a number of sectors.

This is stated in the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) report dated September 4.

Over the past 24 hours, 236 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian occupiers. The most intense fighting took place in the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka sectors.

On the night of September 5, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using “Iskander-M/KN-23” ballistic missiles and 167 attack drones.

Russian occupiers attacked the “Epicenter” shopping mall in Mykolaiv several times. Two people were injured as a result of the strikes, and fires broke out at the impact sites.

In Kyiv, Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had proposed to Russia—the aggressor state—that it temporarily suspend airstrikes during negotiations related to possible visits by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

In the U.S., President Donald Trump stated that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are traveling abroad to try to reach a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia—the aggressor state.
