ZSU capture Russian soldier involved in execution of prisoners — Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian forces have taken a Russian occupier prisoner who participated in the execution of Ukrainian POWs in the Kursk region. According to him, the crime occurred in October 2024.
The president announced this on social media following a briefing from the First Deputy Head of the SBU, Oleksandr Poklad.
“It is the very Russian who is responsible for the execution of Ukrainian prisoners in October last year in the Kursk region who has been captured… We are also countering Russian sabotage in the rear — thanks to the Security Service of Ukraine for protecting our citizens,” wrote Zelensky.
He emphasised: “Every Russian killer must be held accountable for their actions.”
It is believed that this refers to the killing of nine Ukrainian servicemen who had surrendered in the Kursk region in October 2024. At the time, it was reported that the soldiers were approaching positions they believed were in the rear, but encountered the enemy and engaged in combat.
Due to a shortage of ammunition, the soldiers were forced to surrender. According to DeepState analysts, the killing occurred on 10 October 2024.
Dmytro Lubinets sent letters to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross, noting that such actions violate the Geneva Convention.
Russia holds Ukrainian prisoners in over 300 different locations, according to Lubinets.
