Abramovich has filed a complaint with the ECHR against the UK over the Jersey investigation, according to The Times
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights against the British authorities in a case related to an ongoing investigation on the island of Jersey.
This was reported by The Times.
The British government is the respondent in the case. In his appeal to the ECHR, Abramovich claims that his right to a fair trial, guaranteed by Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, has been violated.
The defense also cites a violation of Article 8 of the Convention, which provides for the right to respect for private life.
The basis for the complaint includes, in particular, public statements made by the Attorney General of Jersey in 2022, prior to any formal charges being filed.
The businessman’s representative stated that the investigation has been ongoing for several years without charges being filed and without the presentation of compelling evidence.
“The investigation has been going on for years without any charges being filed and without compelling evidence,” Abramovich’s representative noted.
According to him, the authorities are withholding key information and ignoring basic procedural safeguards, making the case appear politically motivated.
Lawyers for Russian businessman Roman Abramovich stated that he will challenge any attempts by the British government to confiscate the £2.5 billion received from the sale of Chelsea Football Club.
