US troops accidentally struck Iraqi forces in western desert
One Iraqi soldier was killed as a result of an airstrike and fire in the desert areas in western Iraq, according to Rudaw citing sources. The incident occurred following a deployment of US special forces.
According to the joint operational command of Iraq, a unit from the Karbala operational command was conducting a search operation in the desert between the Karbala and Najaf provinces. At dawn, the troops came under airstrike and fire. One soldier was killed and two others wounded. Former MP Hassan al-Janabi said US forces opened fire when Iraqi troops approached within 2 km. Two Iraqi army armored vehicles were also destroyed.
The incident highlights the risks of coordination between allied forces in conflict zones and calls for stricter operational alignment to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
