Bank of Ghana and TVET Service discuss education partnership — MyJoyOnline

In Accra, the leadership of Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training Service (TVET), headed by Director-General Eric Kofi Adroe, met with Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama. The parties discussed a possible strategic partnership to develop vocational skills and strengthen the role of technical and vocational education in the country’s economic transformation, MyJoyOnline reports.

Certification and employment

The meeting participants focused on the importance of sustained investment in technical and vocational education for productivity, entrepreneurship development and employment. They also discussed changes in the global labour market, where automation, artificial intelligence and digital technologies are changing employers’ requirements.

According to TVET representatives, employers increasingly value practical skills, adaptability and the ability to apply knowledge in practice rather than only formal educational credentials. Johnson Pandit Asiama stressed that investment in vocational training can help prepare not only workers but also future entrepreneurs.

The head of the Bank of Ghana also stated the need to expand access to certification. He noted that many Ghanaians acquire professional skills through informal apprenticeships and training under master craftspeople, but do not have recognized certification that could give them access to formal employment, financing and contracts.

Invitation to National TVET Week

Service Director-General Eric Kofi Adroe stated that young people’s acquisition of vocational skills enables them to create jobs for themselves and others. Deputy Director-General for Management Abdul Fatah Maiga Mahama added that vocational education must take into account rapid changes in industry and digital technologies.

During the visit, the Bank of Ghana governor was invited to take part in National TVET Week 2026, scheduled for October 12–16. He is expected to deliver a keynote address during a policy dialogue dedicated to the future development of vocational skills in Ghana.
