A new earthquake was recorded off the coast of Crimea
Another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 occurred in the Black Sea near the Crimean Peninsula; experts classified it as imperceptible.
According to the Main Center for Special Monitoring, the tremors were recorded at 5:53 a.m. at a depth of 12 kilometers.
This event continued a series of seismic phenomena that have been observed in the region’s waters recently.
Scientists note that tremors of this intensity do not pose a direct threat to the population or infrastructure. However, seismic activity in this area has increased noticeably.
“According to the classification, the earthquake is considered imperceptible,” experts from the Main Center for Special Monitoring officially stated.
It is worth recalling that just two days ago, on June 22, a whole series of significantly stronger underground tremors was recorded near the peninsula.
The strongest of these had a magnitude of 4.5, and the tremors were clearly felt by residents in all districts of Sevastopol.
In addition, at the beginning of the year, two underground tremors were also recorded off the coast of the Krasnodar Krai and the occupied Crimea.
According to Andriy Ryzhenko, a first-rank captain in the Ukrainian Navy Reserve, regular tremors in the Earth’s crust can directly affect the operation of Russian military facilities and the Black Sea Fleet.
The expert emphasized that the Crimean Peninsula and the adjacent waters are traditionally located in a zone of heightened seismic risk.
As a historical example, he cited the devastating events of 1927, when powerful tremors caused immense damage to the coastline and even triggered a tsunami.
