Britain conducted an operation to track Russian submarines in the Atlantic

The United Kingdom, in conjunction with its allies, conducted a multi-week operation to monitor Russian military vessels detected near critical undersea infrastructure in the North Atlantic. After round-the-clock surveillance of an Akula-class attack submarine and two special-purpose vessels belonging to the Russian Ministry of Defense’s Main Directorate for Deep-Sea Research (GUD), Russian units left the region.

This was reported by European Truth, citing an official statement from the British government.

Military officials determined that the appearance of the combat submarine was a diversionary maneuver, while Russia’s main activity focused on mapping fiber-optic cables, through which 99% of international data exchange takes place. Defense Minister John Giley stated that Britain deployed the frigate HMS St Albans and aircraft for a “show of force” campaign to demonstrate to Putin the futility of his plans to covertly damage infrastructure. One of the identified vessels, the Yantar, had previously been observed engaging in aggressive actions against British pilots, including the use of blinding lasers.

Over the past two years, the frequency of Russian naval activity near British shores has increased by 30%, forcing London to keep its rapid-response forces on constant alert. Gilly warned Russia of serious consequences in the event of any sabotage attempts, emphasizing the importance of protecting banking transactions and global communications. Currently, Russian vessels have returned to their base in the Barents Sea, but monitoring of the waters continues in close cooperation with Norway. The United Kingdom emphasizes that it is capable of ensuring the security of undersea cables even under conditions of hybrid pressure from Russia. The situation in the North Atlantic remains under close NATO command supervision. Increased patrols by aircraft and surface ships allow for the timely detection of threats to Europe’s energy and digital stability. The Royal Navy’s professional actions have once again confirmed the effectiveness of allied coordination in response to Russian provocations. The British government has assured that it will continue to act with the utmost resolve to protect national interests at sea.

Earlier, London announced a shift toward decisive action against the aggressor’s maritime logistics, authorizing the interception and inspection of vessels belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet.”

As a reminder, the Russian Federation’s shadow fleet is used for espionage missions in Europe.
