In the United Kingdom, 23 officers from the Royal Family’s security detail are under disciplinary investigation on suspicion of dereliction of duty while on duty at Windsor Castle.
This was reported by Reuters.
According to police, 21 officers have been temporarily suspended from duty following the launch of an urgent investigation last month.
As noted by the agency, the officers’ alleged conduct does not meet the high standards expected of police officers, especially those performing security duties.
The investigation was launched following a report by The Sun, which stated that some officers had left their posts unattended or fallen asleep while on duty at Windsor Castle—one of the residences of King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
Two police officers, who have not been suspended from duty, will also not be assigned to guard royal residences until the investigation is complete.
Officers from a specialized unit are responsible for protecting members of the royal family and royal residences. An investigation is also underway regarding other royal family properties.
