Russia may threaten London with Zircon missiles from the North — The Times

Russia may attempt to challenge NATO in the Arctic region and pose threats to the Alliance from the Far North.

This is reported by The Times.

The article refers to a strategically important area near the coast of northern Norway, where, according to estimates, the deployment of Russian forces could potentially allow for strikes on London using Zircon-type hypersonic missiles.

Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik warned of such a threat, highlighting the increase in Russia’s military activity in the Arctic region.

It is noted that in the Arctic Ocean, near the strait leading to the North Atlantic, Russia has concentrated the majority of its nuclear arsenal. At the same time, Russia is expanding its Northern Fleet, and its submarines are increasingly operating near NATO waters. Consequently, the passage between mainland Norway and the Svalbard archipelago has become a flashpoint.

According to Sandvik, Russia may attempt to seize control of this region to create a “bastion defense” around its nuclear arsenal and ensure its fleet has easy access to the Atlantic Ocean.

He said that for the UK, this is the most critical defense issue, as Russian control of this area would pose a direct threat to the UK—it would no longer be able to monitor the movements of Russian submarines.

"We see what weapons systems Russia is developing. If they can control the strait, they will also be able to use hypersonic missiles against NATO… against London, against Norway, against Denmark. We cannot allow them to do this," he said.

The authors noted that the Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, which can carry nuclear warheads, pose a potential threat. Russia is also developing the Poseidon stealth underwater drone with a nuclear power plant.

The logic of the defense is that NATO effectively controls two of the three narrow passages guarding the Russian fleet’s route to the oceans: the Bosphorus Strait at the mouth of the Black Sea and the Danish straits, which form the western entrance to the Baltic Sea.

The nighttime attack on Kyiv cost Russia hundreds of millions.

The number of casualties in Kyiv as a result of the massive Russian attack has risen to 87, including children.

As a result of Russia’s massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv, a shock wave damaged the ground-level lobby of the Lukyanivska metro station.

On the night of May 24, Russian forces carried out a massive combined attack on Kyiv, using ballistic missiles and strike drones. All districts of the capital came under fire.
