Coca-Cola plans to present a four-year investment plan in Colombia
Colombian President Abelardo de La Espriella said that The Coca-Cola Company and Coca-Cola FEMSA plan to present an investment plan for the country for the next four years in Barranquilla in December. The Rio Times reports, citing a statement by the head of state after his meeting with the companies' management on August 31.
Details to be presented in December
Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism Mauricio Gomez Amin also took part in the meeting. The president said that the companies discussed investment and development plans in Colombia, while details of the new commitment will be announced in December during FEMSA's centennial celebrations.
The investment amount, the list of production facilities, and job creation targets have not yet been announced. After the meeting, de La Espriella said that the government seeks to attract and retain investments that create jobs, strengthen industry, support regions, and promote the country's economic growth.

Why the presentation will be held in Barranquilla
One of Coca-Cola FEMSA's key Colombian plants operates in Barranquilla. The facility was expanded in 2024 with an investment of about $80 million. According to the source, following the expansion, the plant became the company's second largest in Colombia and received new production lines with technologies for more efficient use of water and energy.
According to company data cited by The Rio Times, Coca-Cola FEMSA has seven production facilities, 22 distribution centers, and more than 9,000 direct jobs in Colombia. The company has also invested nearly $500 million in sustainability programs and capacity expansion in recent years.
Government contacts with business
De La Espriella took office on August 7 and declared a course toward legal certainty and attracting private investment. The meeting with Coca-Cola representatives took place as part of the new government's contacts with big business after the August 10 earthquake. Among the announced contributions to reconstruction, Organización Corona promised 50 billion Colombian pesos, while Eternit donated the first 50 houses for reconstruction.
