US trade representative says there are no negotiations with Canada — The Hill
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that the United States is currently not holding trade negotiations with Canada. This came after talks between the countries broke down last month and US tariffs on Canadian goods took effect.

As The Hill reports, citing Politico, Greer said the situation is more urgent for Canada than for the United States. He also said that no trade negotiations are currently taking place.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Monday criticized Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. According to Bessent, the Canadian leader himself decided to walk away from a trade deal. Bessent also claimed that Carney is acting in the interests of the Liberal Party and Carney himself, rather than Canadians.

Mutual tariffs
Trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa have intensified in recent weeks after Canada withdrew its negotiators from trade discussions with the United States. Both countries imposed tariffs on each other.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he does not want US companies to import Canadian goods. In a Truth Social post, he wrote that his tariffs had revived and saved the US auto industry, mentioning the profits of Ford, General Motors and other US automakers.
Goods subject to US tariffs
Trump also called Canada one of the biggest offenders in trade. Last month, US 50-percent import tariffs on Canadian goods worth $27.6 billion took effect. The tariffs covered, among other things, wine, hockey sticks, cement, natural honey and wallpaper.
