A lawmaker from Buryatia called on Putin to meet with residents of the region

Bair Tsirenov, a deputy of the People’s Khural of Buryatia, appealed to the republic’s leadership to organize a genuine meeting between local residents and Russian President Vladimir Putin during his possible visit to the region. The politician stated that such a meeting should not be devoted to formal events, but rather to discussing the pressing issues that concern the population.

According to Tsirenov, the Buryat authorities are already actively preparing for the Russian leader’s arrival; however, instead of staging events and showcasing “achievements,” officials should allow people to speak directly about the difficult situation in the region. The deputy emphasized that residents must have the opportunity to ask Putin questions about social, economic, and other issues.

He also noted that the situation in Buryatia and in Russia as a whole remains difficult, and that an open dialogue between the authorities and citizens could help better understand the real challenges. At the same time, the deputy did not specify exactly which problems he was referring to.

Earlier, Tsirenov, who represents the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, announced his intention to run for the State Duma and promised to raise issues of concern to the residents of Buryatia. Among them, he cited high fuel prices, internet access, and socioeconomic and environmental issues.

Putin’s possible visit to Buryatia has been the subject of discussion after a schoolboy from Ulan-Ude invited the Russian president to visit the republic during the final ceremony of the “Great Change” competition in Krasnoyarsk. Putin said at the time that he would consider the proposal. Meanwhile, local propaganda media have already begun circulating reports about the allegedly positive impact of the president’s previous visits on the region’s development.
