The Polish Senate did not approve the new head of the Institute of National Remembrance
The Polish Senate rejected Mateusz Szpitma’s nomination for the position of president of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), despite the fact that the Sejm had previously endorsed him.
During the vote in the upper house of parliament, 38 senators voted “in favor,” 50 voted “against,” and one abstained.
As a result, the procedure for electing a new president of the Institute of National Remembrance will start over.

The Czech right-wing populist SPD party stated that it would seek to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Czech Republic’s highest state award—the Order of the White Lion.
The decision to revoke Poland’s highest state honor, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a unilateral act by the president. Under Polish procedure, the president may initiate the revocation of an award, but the corresponding act requires the countersignature (co-signature) of the Prime Minister of Poland.
