Designer Stella McCartney dedicates Paris show to the state of the oceans — Asharq Al-Awsat

Designer Stella McCartney presented her women’s spring-summer 2027 ready-to-wear collection on September 30 in Paris, France, drawing attention to the consequences of overfishing and climate change for the oceans. The show took place in the garden of the British ambassador’s residence, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.

Marine motifs in the collection

The collection used images of orcas, sharks and dolphins. Models also walked the runway with transparent bags containing marine creatures, including a starfish.

On the white runway, models showcased low-rise trousers with sculpted waves at the hips, tops with voluminous hems, as well as lightweight semi-sheer jackets and shirts. The marine theme was supported by the colour palette: aquamarine and bright blue dresses, as well as a coral-coloured trench coat.

A call to the luxury industry

At the start of the show, the voice of British naturalist and television presenter David Attenborough was heard. He called for attention to what is happening beneath the waves and said that humanity has depleted the ocean.

McCartney, who is a vegetarian, said after the show that the fishing industry is waging war against the ocean and its inhabitants. She urged people to consider the choice between marine life and seafood.

The Stella McCartney brand does not use animal leather and invests in more sustainable production of cotton, wool and other materials. For its bags, the brand uses leather alternatives made from mushrooms or grape waste from vineyards. The designer also called on major luxury brands to invest in scaling up materials such as organic cotton and lab-grown wool.
