Diplomats from 19 countries invited to Chungju — Korea Herald

In the South Korean city of Chungju, diplomats from 19 countries have been invited to a two-day networking event dedicated to the city’s culture, tourism and industrial sector. Ambassadors from countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and South America, as well as diplomatic staff and their family members, are expected to take part.

Event ahead of tourism year

The event is jointly organized by the Korea Herald and the Chungju Culture and Tourism Foundation. It is being held ahead of Visit Chungju Year 2027.

Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is also scheduled to participate in the event. The foundation and Chungju city authorities said that the meeting is intended to strengthen trust and ties between diplomats and introduce the city to the international community.

Tourism and technology

A city representative said that Chungju seeks to showcase a combination of modern technology, traditional culture and local cuisine. The city is also trying to attract tourists for longer stays by combining accommodation, events and consumer offers.

On September 15, Chungju Mayor Lee Dong-seok met with representatives of the Yanolja tourism platform. The sides discussed tourism promotion and the creation of infrastructure for “smart tourism” using technologies intended to improve travelers’ experience.
