Peskov's wife is demanding that the EU lift sanctions and pay compensation
Tatyana Navka, the wife of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, has filed a lawsuit with the European Union court seeking to have the sanctions against her lifted. She is also seeking more than 2 million euros in compensation from the EU for alleged damages.
Sanctions against the Olympic figure skating champion were imposed in 2022 following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine due to her ties to the Kremlin’s inner circle.
Olympic figure skating champion Tatiana Navka has filed a lawsuit with the European Union court, demanding that she be removed from the sanctions list and awarded more than 2 million euros in compensation.
Restrictions against Navka were imposed after Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022. The European Union stated that she was sanctioned due to her ties to an individual who supports actions that threaten Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The EU also noted that Navka may have been linked to business and real estate in occupied Crimea.
In her lawsuit, the figure skater claimed that the Council of the European Union allegedly did not have sufficient grounds to include her on the sanctions list. According to Navka, the restrictions violate her rights, in particular her right to respect for private and family life.
In addition to the lifting of the sanctions, Peskov’s wife is seeking financial compensation. She estimates her material damages at nearly 135,000 euros and seeks over 1.9 million euros in compensation for emotional distress. In total, the claims amount to over 2 million euros.
The European Union has previously stated on multiple occasions that sanctions against Russian officials, businesspeople, and their associates were imposed due to their support for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and are intended to increase pressure on the Kremlin.
