Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie considers running for US president in 2028 — The Hill

In the United States, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said he is considering the possibility of running for president for a third time in 2028. He said this on September 22 at the Granite State Summit on Responsible Gaming, The Hill reports.

Potential third attempt

Christie noted that a person who has already taken part in a presidential race is unlikely to completely abandon thoughts of another campaign. According to him, once a candidate convinces himself that he can become president and should be president, that thought does not disappear.

At the same time, the politician stressed that he needs a real strategy for a new bid. He said that his wife wants to see a clear path before he makes such a decision.

Expectations for the 2026 elections

Christie linked a possible decision to the results of the 2026 US congressional midterm elections. He asked whether the Republican Party or its dominant wing would change its approach in the event of significant election defeats.

According to the latest Decision Desk HQ forecasts cited by the outlet, Democrats have better chances of winning a majority in the House of Representatives and somewhat lower chances in the Senate. The Hill notes that this is happening amid the president's troubled approval ratings and growing voter dissatisfaction with the state of the economy under Republican control in Washington.

Christie has already run for president in 2016 and 2024. During the 2024 Republican Party primaries, he competed against Donald Trump, whose ally he had previously been. The outlet also names Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio among possible Republican contenders in 2028.
