The EU has allocated €3.2 billion in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine
The European Union has begun disbursing a new package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine and has announced additional funding for defense needs, including the production of drones.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the EU and its member states have provided Ukraine with approximately 200 billion euros in aid.
Von der Leyen announced the start of disbursements under the new loan package.
“Today we are transferring the first tranche of this loan (€90 billion—Ed.), which amounts to €3.2 billion in macro-financial assistance. I am pleased to announce this allocation of funds today,” she said.
Thus, Ukraine has received the first tranche of 3.2 billion euros as part of a broader financial instrument.
Separately, the European Commission President announced a new support package for the defense sector.
According to her, in the coming days the EU will begin transferring funds to Ukraine from a 6 billion euro package, which will be directed toward drone production.
Von der Leyen emphasized that such support is an example of the European Union’s practical solidarity with Ukraine.
“This is truly solidarity in action,” she stated.
The total amount of EU aid to Ukraine since the start of the war amounts to approximately 200 billion euros, covering financial, military, and humanitarian support.
This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the opening of the Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery in Gdańsk.
In addition, the European Union will provide Ukraine with more than 25 million euros to renovate and improve the security of preschool education facilities.
As a reminder, as part of a new financing program, the International Monetary Fund has required Ukraine to adopt a package of tax reforms. The deadline for fulfilling these commitments is the end of March.
As a reminder, the International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board approved a new four-year Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program for Ukraine worth $8.1 billion. The first tranche under the program is expected in the near future.
