European Commissioner Kos hopes that the dispute with Poland will not hinder Ukraine's accession to the EU
Marta Kos, the newly appointed European Commissioner for Enlargement, stated that the current tensions in bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland will not hinder Kyiv’s European integration process.
The European Commission representative assured that Brussels has sufficient effective mechanisms to resolve any political disagreements between the neighboring countries.
She expressed confidence in the parties’ ability to reach a compromise for the sake of a shared European future.
Responding to direct questions from media representatives regarding the risks of Warsaw blocking the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, the European Commissioner cited successful examples of resolving previous crises.
She noted that the EU has repeatedly demonstrated flexibility and diplomatic resilience in resolving complex geopolitical disputes.
“So far, we have always managed to resolve such issues, even with Hungary, although it took some time,” Kos noted.
Despite a significant cooling of diplomatic relations between the countries, the European official expects constructive dialogue and pragmatism from both capitals.
She hopes that the leaders of both countries will be able to distinguish between historical or domestic political differences and the technical requirements for EU membership.
Kos expressed hope that “the governments and politicians of both countries will allow everything necessary to be done to open the remaining chapters and then close them one by one.”
“I remain optimistic,” the European Commissioner emphasized.
