Finland has closed part of its airspace near the border with Russia
The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced the closure of part of the airspace in the southeastern part of the country. The restrictions apply to the Kaakkois-Suomi region, and pilots are advised to take them into account when planning their routes. According to media reports, this move may be related to security risks amid Russia’s war against Ukraine and is of a preventive nature.
The restrictions require pilots to take into account the closure of airspace over the Kaakkois-Suomi region when planning flights. They apply to both manned aircraft and drones.
According to sources in the General Staff of the Finnish Armed Forces, this measure is preventive in nature and is linked to the war in Ukraine. As the publication notes, Ukraine has recently been carrying out drone attacks on targets in Russia’s Leningrad Oblast, near the Finnish border.
This is reported with reference to Europa Press.
Finland has decided not to open its border with Russia.
The Finnish Air Force will conduct special exercises to repel drone attacks in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, as well as in the Kymenlaakso and South Karelia regions, which border Russia.
A delegation from the Helsinki Fire and Rescue Department in Finland spent four days studying the experience of Ukrainian rescue workers in dealing with the aftermath of war.
