A large-scale forest fire is raging near the town of Oostrum in the Dutch province of North Limburg. The fire has already engulfed more than 20 hectares of forest.
Firefighters are on the scene, working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The fire has already destroyed about 21 hectares of natural habitat, and as of 10:00 p.m. local time, it has not yet been fully contained.
“The fire in the nature reserve near Oostrum in the province of North Limburg has not yet been brought under control. The fire has destroyed approximately 21 hectares of natural habitat. According to the Regional Security Service, firefighting efforts will continue for at least another six to eight hours. About 250 firefighters from surrounding areas have arrived in Oostrum. Two military helicopters have also been deployed to help fight the fire,” the statement said.
It is noted that the fire broke out in the morning in a nature reserve covering about 100 hectares. Due to strong winds and high temperatures, the fire spread rapidly.

Due to the smoke, residents of nearby villages received an emergency alert warning of hazardous smoke.
A campground near the nature reserve had to be evacuated. Approximately 300 people left their tents and RVs. Animals were also urgently evacuated from a local shelter for dogs, cats, and birds.
