Latvia's foreign minister has refuted Russia's claims that attacks are being prepared from Ukraine
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze reacted sharply to a statement by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service claiming that Ukraine is allegedly preparing strikes on Russian territory using Latvian territory. The head of the diplomatic service called these claims “absolute lies” and accused Moscow of disinformation.
She wrote about this on social media platform X.
Baiba Braze emphasized that Latvia does not provide its territory or airspace for any attacks against Russia.
“Russia is lying again. This time, it is the Foreign Intelligence Service conducting a disinformation campaign against Latvia. FACT: Latvia does NOT provide airspace for attacks on Russia. This has been explained to Russian representatives on multiple occasions,” the minister stated.
The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that such statements are part of the Kremlin’s information campaign aimed at discrediting EU and NATO countries that support Ukraine.
As a reminder, Belarus lacks the forces and resources for a large-scale war against Ukraine, so such a scenario is unlikely. This was stated by military analyst and retired Major Oleksiy Getman. According to him, Minsk is more likely to try to exert pressure in the northern direction, but without the ability to launch a full-scale offensive.
