The Pentagon chief denied reports of a missile shortage in the U.S.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagseth called reports in the American media about the alleged depletion of key missile stocks in the U.S. Armed Forces “fake news.” According to him, the information about a weapons shortage is not true.
In his post, he shared a screenshot from CNN showing a caption claiming that, according to sources, the U.S. military had used up about 80% of its available stockpile for the key THAAD air defense system.
“This caption is not true, CNN. You should be ashamed. We don’t hate the media that spreads fake news enough yet,” Hagseth wrote on Twitter.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz could be fully open to international shipping as early as August 4. After that, he said, Washington and Tehran will move on to a new phase of negotiations focused on Iran’s nuclear program.
