Israel has reported its first death from West Nile fever this season

The Israeli Ministry of Health reported the death of a patient in his 70s who had been hospitalized with complications from West Nile fever. This is the first recorded death from this disease in the country this season.

Since the start of the season, ten cases of the disease have been diagnosed in Israel, and three patients remain in hospitals in satisfactory condition. Infected mosquitoes have been detected in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Tayibe, Tiri, Kalansua, and the Lev HaSharon Regional Council, prompting local authorities to step up monitoring and disinfection efforts in these areas.

Residents are urged to eliminate sources of standing water, use mosquito repellents, and report areas of mass breeding to their municipalities.

The first cases of West Nile fever have been reported in the Khmelnytskyi region.

Popular European tourist destinations are seeing a rise in mosquito-borne diseases this summer. Experts attribute this to heat waves and climate change, which create favorable conditions for the spread of these dangerous insects.
