Romania Prepares to Impose Restrictions on Industry Due to the Risk of Power Shortages — Digi24

In Romania, amid the threat of an electricity shortage, a mechanism for potentially restricting power supplies to industrial consumers has been agreed upon. At the same time, authorities state that there is currently no need to implement these measures.

The new mechanism is intended to help stabilize the power grid should the situation deteriorate and the load on the grid increase significantly. Restrictions would apply only to certain industrial enterprises in the event of a critical electricity shortage.

On Thursday, the Romanian government approved the Energy Risk Preparedness Plan, which outlines the procedure to follow in the event of a serious electricity shortage.

In such a case, Transelectrica will be able to restrict supply to large industrial consumers, notifying them 24 hours in advance of these actions. Such measures are possible if the forecasted consumption for certain days indicates that the country cannot meet the entire demand.

At the same time, officials note that this is currently a long-term plan and no such measures are planned at this time.

On Thursday, an operation is underway in Romania to sink barges in the Danube to alleviate the situation for the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, which is on the verge of shutdown due to extremely low water levels.

Hungary and its only nuclear power plant, Paks, find themselves in a similar situation.

This was reported by Digi24.

Romania is sinking barges on the Danube to keep the nuclear power plant operational.

Romania is recalling its ambassador from Russia and expelling a Russian diplomat.

Romania spent €1.5 million to shoot down three Russian drones.

As a reminder, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassador of the Russian Federation, the aggressor state, due to repeated violations of the country’s airspace by drones. This occurred after Romanian fighter jets shot down the third drone in the last three days that had violated Romania’s airspace.

Moldova condemned Russia’s violation of Romania’s airspace.
