Head of Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court declares the supremacy of the Constitution
Speaking at an event in Islamabad, Aminuddin Khan, head of Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court, stressed that the Constitution must remain supreme and that any exercise of public authority must take place within its constitutional limits.
Limits of institutional powers
According to Khan, the Constitution is the highest expression of the collective will of the people. He noted that every institution created under it derives its powers from the Constitution and is simultaneously limited by its provisions.
As Dawn reports, the court’s head described this as the fundamental philosophy that should guide the Federal Constitutional Court.

Constitutional adjudication
Aminuddin Khan described the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court as an important institutional development in Pakistan’s constitutional history. The court was created in accordance with the 27th amendment to the Constitution, adopted in November 2025.
He also noted that constitutional adjudication holds a special place in the justice system. It concerns not only disputes between individuals, but also matters of the structure of the state, the distribution of constitutional powers, the protection of fundamental rights, and the preservation of the constitutional order.
